Morning Star, October 28, 2007, pg. 12 With fall being football season, we’ve got a real treat for our readers this week. From our Historical Notebook we present a photograph of the Fall, 1942 Albion High School Football team, courtesy of Joseph Romanchuk who was a member of that fine group of young men. They are pictured on the front steps of Washington Gardner High School. That year the Wildcats won their fifth consecutive Twin Valley championship under the director of Coach Floyd Dorland. How many of these team members are still living today? This was during World War II, and some of the team members left soon afterwards for the service. Front row seated, left to right: Sherwood Poirier, Wendell Martin, Don Hull, John Martinoff, Lester Stone, Jim Llewellyn, Thomas Zasucha, Jack Kipp, Robert Hunter, Ray Burns, Marty Wellington, and Raymond Rogers. Second row: Gilbert Elmer, George Roys, Kenneth Kaiser, Robert Hoaglin, Joe Romanchuk, Ed Wright, Fred Rieger, Robert Schultz, John Swanson, Jack McKim; and assistant backfield coach Harry Williams. Third row: Harry Maksimchuk, Coach Floyd Dorland, Henry Faulk, Richard Murray, Pat McIntee, team manager Albert Pollman, Nick Balash, Robert Bushong, James Young, James Belknap, Leonard White, Jack Zimmerman; and head line coach Ernest Gray.
