Morning Star, November 23, 2008, pg. 21 A happy Thanksgiving to all of us this Thursday. As we approach the holiday season, I’d like to remind my readers that my Albion history articles are reprinted on the www.albionmich.com website. Please let your visiting relatives know about this website. Also, my Albion history books and materials can be found at the Albion Chamber of Commerce or at Books & More. Shop locally in downtown Albion this Christmas season. This week we present another sports photograph, courtesy of the estate of Victor Buinowski. It features the 1939-1940 Albion High School basketball team. That was the year after the 1939 state championship team, and the pressure was on to repeat it. Despite falling short of that goal, this 1940 team did pretty good, earning a Twin Valley Co-championship with Coldwater. Front row: Russell Elushik, Victor Buinowski, Gordon Ketchum, Lewis Moon with mascot dog in front, Lawrence Kabel, Alex Egnatuk, Joseph Veremay. 2nd row: Coach Floyd Dorland, Wayne Sharrar, Dale Bartell, Leo DeMetrick, Danial Wiener, Kenneth Wolfe, Darwin Mason, Ray Burns, Eugene Wilkinson, Coach Ernest Gray. Top row: Oliver Burns, Walter Nester, Andrew Maksimchuk, Rufus Foster, Claud Davidson, Junior Morgan, Richard Lambrecht, Harold Wakelin, John Ivanski. 1939-1940 Albion High School basketball team All text copyright, 2024 © all rights reserved Frank Passic
