Burnham Brook East, a new senior wellness and activity center in AlbionProgress Being Made at Burnham Brook East Progress continues on the opening of Burnham Brook East, a new senior wellness and activity center in Albion. A satellite of Burnham Brook Center in Battle Creek, Burnham Brook East will serve Greater Albion area residents age 50 and older.
The Center will house a wellness clinic that will provide health screenings and wellness services and education. Fitness programs, support groups, nutrition education, computer classes, and social and crafts programs will also be offered. The center is scheduled to open in late September.
The community has been very involved in the progress of Burnham Brook East. The center will be housed on the lower level of Munger Place, a 4,000 square foot facility on East Michigan Avenue, which has been donated rent-free by Rick Munger for the first three years of operation.
Renovation of the facility is nearly complete. Furniture has been ordered from Sanders Furniture in Albion. Office equipment, computers, and telephones have been installed. Plans are underway to add a warming kitchen to serve daily congregate meals. Even though the center does not officially open until September, a limited number of activities will be offered throughout the summer. They include an intergenerational bowling outing, aquatic and fitness classes, a 50's sock hop, CarAVan visits, and multiple blood pressure clinics located throughout the Albion community.
A membership and volunteer recruitment campaign is currently underway. Annual membership dues of $38 will enable members to use the fitness area, computer lab, health and wellness clinic, reading area, multi-social area, and participate in support groups, movies, structured programs and classes, trips and tours, and various special events. (Some programs will have additional fees.)
A special incentive plan is available to those who purchase memberships before September 1. More detailed information about the opening of Burnham Brook East will be published in August. For information on summer programs, memberships, and volunteer opportunities, please call 517-629-5543.
