Farewell planned for former mayor Tom Padgett

Former Sioux City Mayor Tom Padgett will be honored at a public farewell reception from 4 - 6 p.m. Friday in the atrium of the Sioux City convention Center.

Padgett has accepted a position as director of the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service at Albion (Mich.) College. He will begin his duties there later this month.

A native of Michigan, Padgett has lived in Sioux City for 35 years. He served two terms on the City Council from 1994 through 2001 and was mayor in 1998 and 1999. He was a psychology professor at Briar Cliff College (now Briar Cliff University) for 34 years before taking early retirement in May 2001.

Padgett also served three terms on the Sioux City Board of Education and was board president for two years.

Light refreshments will be served at the reception.
