Boy Scouts Albion
Michigan Troop 172 April 7, 2001
Updates to calendar from Amy Bearman: Present: Debbie Bommarito, Bob Sprouse, Mike and Amy Bearman, Dana and Terry Anderla, John Harden, Laura and Dean Claugherty, Pastor James and Lisa Waddell, plus families and scouts. Also present, Matt Specht, District Executive for Baw Beese District. Matt Specht gave an interesting presentation about the benefits of scouting towards building character for young people. He is speaking for the benefit of the Friends of Scouting Campaign. Each family is asked to donate $75 or more to sponsor one scout. New scoutmaster Mike Bearman spoke next in appreciation of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Troop #172 has weekly meetings there, and we also store our trailer in their lot. We have enjoyed their facilities for banquets as well. Pastor Waddell was offered our thanks and gratitude for the sponsorship of St. Paul's. Mike Bearman next gave a summary of a competitive skills exercise the troop engaged in over the weekend. An orienteering course, firebuilding contest, pioneering building exercise and other contests gave the scouts a chance to learn and show their skills. One team, lead by Jonathan McQueen won the overall competition and was awarded sets of coins from Italy and the Vatican. Next, Terry Anderla received a service plaque for the decade he put in as scout master. During Terry's tenure, seven scouts from Troop #172 earned their Eagle scout award. ----------------------- Calendar The Spring Camporee is April 27, 28 and 29 The campground is in Spring Arbor. Take M-60 east from N. Concord Rd until you see Parson's Rd. Turn right (south) on Parson's. Look for an "old railroad track" watch for signs of the camporee. Turn left on the "old railroad bed" road to the campground. Reminder one: There will be a family chicken dinner at the Spring Camporee, Sat. April 28, $6 for a fine dinner. A reminder from one hungry scout is to "bring snacks!" May 18,
19,20: advancement weekend at Anderla's Summer camp is June 30 thru July 7 August 10-12 Family Campout at White River Campground, Whitehall, MI (same place as last year, different campsite).I'll get a signup organized soon. The TALL SHIPS will be in Whitehall that weekend! -------------- Scouts are reminded to invite a friend to one of the scout activities. The Spring Camporee would be a good event to invite a friend too. Call Bob Sprouse if you would like to bring a friend. We also need to invite Webelos. Also, the $26 annual dues are now due. Please bring in your check payable to "Troop #172" to the next meeting. The fruit sale generated over $300, but needs to be better announced next year so that all scouts participate. An email notification to the list would encourage better activity. Dessert was served and the families enjoyed
viewing the stars on the Bearman's farm.
