WHAT: 18th Annual Walk for Warmth   One or three mile fixed-route walk-a-thon to raise money for fuel assistance.

WHEN: Saturday, February 22, 2003  Registration begins at 9:00a.m. / Opening Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Walk begins at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: Tenant Hall - United Methodist Church  600 East Michigan Avenue, Albion, Michigan

WHO: You, your friends, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, and the Albion Action Center.

WHY: Without the Walk for Warmth, hundreds of families in South Central Michigan would have no heat in their homes this winter.

LAST YEAR: 200 walkers and supporting sponsors raised over $7,000 in Albion. With these funds, 40 households in our community were kept warm throughout the winter.

 

 

WHO IS HELPED BY  WALK FOR WARMTH?   Recipients of Walk for Warmth funds raised in Albion are the poor who are unable to work, the working poor, the elderly, and the disabled.   The average Albion resident spends 7.2% of their income to heat their home in the winter; a Walk for Warmth recipient spends 25%.   Half of those who come to CAA for heating assistance are employed or only recently unemployed.  6% of recipients in 2002 were elderly; 15% were disabled.  If recipients are able, they are encouraged to volunteer their time to the Walk for Warmth to help others in need of emergency assistance.
