The long-term positive youth development outcomes around which all of CPAY's planning actions are keyed are:
Economic self-sufficiency
Healthy family and social relationships
Community involvement

In fact, actual youth programming is only a part of what we're doing with the grant funding.

We are:
Working to implement all three KYIP blueprint strategies to attain the ultimate outcomes for the youth of Albion:

  1. Increase the number and quality of gap activities,
  2. Strengthen capacities of community adults and families to provide supports and opportunities for youth, and
  3. Strengthen community organizational supports related to youth.

Research has revealed that the "gap" time in a youth's day -- that time when she or he is not in school -- is their most vulnerable to negative influences.

CPAY

WHAT:

A collaborative network for providers of youth development programming in Albion, with a particular focus on building assets in Albion's kids by engaging them in positive out-of-school-time activities.

WHO:

CPAY welcomes any and all youth programming providers or other interested parties to join us "at the table" any time.

Current participants include:

Links are to the Albion Youth Web Directory information first if we have information available. If we do not, then the link will go from here directly to the organization's main web site for now.

WHEN:

This collaboration was formed in Spring 2000 to make decisions on how an impending grant to Albion from the Kellogg Youth Initiatives Partnership (an offshoot of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation) could best be used for the benefit of the youth of our community.

The Albion Community Foundation, administrator for the local KYIP grant, convened the first CPAY business meeting, which is now held on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. Recently, a more informal luncheon gathering on the first Monday of each month has been added.

For more information or a schedule, please contact Michelle Mueller at the ACF at

WHY:

Research has revealed that the "gap"time in a youth's day -- that time when she or he is not in school -- is their most vulnerable to negative influences.

KYIP developed a five-year Blueprint for Positive Youth Development in Calhoun County after 14 months of input from county-wide leaders and experts, and in 2000 made eight grants to begin the implementation of the blueprint in the county. Albion received the largest grant, and the CPAY collaborative is being held up as a model for the rest of the county.

It is CPAY's pledge, however, that it will not disband with the end of the Kellogg money, but will continue to strive toward its goal of building long-term sustainability for positive youth development programming here in our community.

This project was made possible by a grant from the Youth Advisory Committee,
and the Youth Media Bureau which are both funded by the Albion Community Foundation.
