Morning Star, January 19, 2014, pg. 13 Over the past year we’ve featured a couple of student group photographs of Austin Elementary School from years ago. Group photos of elementary school teachers are harder to obtain however. There were no yearbooks in elementary schools unlike the Junior and Senior high school grades. From our Historical Notebook this week we present a real treat, courtesy of Jan Christner, one of the teachers in this photo. This photo features the faculty of Austin School, 1957-58 school year. Front row, left to right: Myrtle Anderson, Florence Barnes, and Ann Sprandel. Back row: Owna Baker, Myrtle Phillips, Janet Christner, Loraine Kracko, Mary Ann Spaan, and Lowell Le Clair, principal. It was Le Clair’s son Craig who was the little boy pictured in that classic Pee Wee baseball photo at bat with Jerry Sacharski. How many of our readers had these teachers when they were going to Austin School?
