ALBION PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2001 Brighter Futures Summer School Academy Program June 25, 2001-July 31, 2001 Monday-Thursday (No program July 4th & July 5th) FREE! For Albion area youth who are presently Kindergartners through Fifth Graders Transportation to and from programs Morning Academic program 8:30 11:15 am, Caldwell and Crowell School Afternoon Enrichment program 12:302:30 pm, Crowell School only Breakfast provided Caldwell Morning Academy features Math & Reading Crowell Morning Advance Student Academy 3rd-5th Graders only, Science & Social Studies Lunch is available to students through the Federally funded Free Summer Lunch Program at the Crowell School site between 11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m.

June 18-21 Polymer Clay Jewelry 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sue Havens, Jewelry Designer Remember the old Paydough Fun Factory? Have fun with the adult version learning to make polymer clay beads and jewelry. Class is for adult/child partners, one adult for each child, with the children being 8 years or older. If you don't have a child or grandchild of your own, borrow one for the evenings. (materials fee $15/couple)
June 25-29 Bug Detectives 9:00-10:00 a.m. Jill Mihelich, Outdoor Education Instructor Investigate, capture, and identify bugs! Find out how and where they live in the Nature Center's woods, fields and ponds. For 1st through 3rd graders. (Materials fee $10)
June 25-29 at 1:15 4:00 p.m. Climb that Family Tree Ellen Wilch, Science Teacher This is a class for 5th through 8th graders about genetics and evolution. Activities will include extracting DNA from wheat germ, making a family pedigree mobile, doing a taste test for a harmless genetic trait, making chromosome pretzels, and a surprise field trip! (materials fee $15)
SVS SWIM CAMP June 18-22, 2001 Albion College Pool Cost: $105.00 Ages 8-17 9:00 am 4:00 pm Participants will develop competitive swimming skills, conditioning, stroke drills, daily video taping, etc. Call Keith Havens, Director, for Registration (517) 629-4760 Assistant Mary Ann Egnatuk ALBION REC. June 25 August 1 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Monday-Friday (lunch included) NYSP at Albion College will offer up to two hundred boys and girls ages 10-16, free instruction in swimming, basketball, baseball and softball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, track and field, obstacle course and outdoor adventure. In addition, youth participants will be counseled by trained adults on issues of alcohol and drug-abuse prevention, nutrition and personal health, career and job opportunities, and classroom learning techniques.
