HOCKEY PHOTO, 1966

Morning Star, January 18, 2009, Pg. 9

Outdoor winter hockey was once a popular sport in Albion during the 1960s. The hockey rink next to the Rieger Park skating pond was the site of numerous matches between local and regional hockey clubs. From our Historical Notebook this week, courtesy of Joseph Romanchuk we present a photo of the Albion Junior Red Wings verses the Old Timers. This game was held on February 28, 1966. The Juniors won by a score of 4 to 3.

Front row, left to right: Rick Wells, Bob Berkheimer, Richard Harris, Craig Weston, Craig Phipps, Mark Skinner, Kent Phipps, Aaron Aalbregtse, and Mike Harris.

Back row: Joseph Romanchuk, Eugene Skinner, Jack Weston, Robert Aalbregtse, LeRoy Pontzloff, Joseph McCracken, Bill Spagnolo.
