Morning Star, May 31, 2015, pg. 9 Each year at this time we feature the Albion High School Class of 100 years ago. Unfortunately, I will only be able to continue this annual feature for just 98 years more, as the Class of 2013 was our last high school class. This is now the second year we have had no Albion High School nor a graduating class. The class of 1915 had 50 members. Valedictorian was Estelle Cozine, while the salutatorian was Nina Bryden. Class president was Ian Patterson. The class motto was "Labor Overcomes All Things." The class colors were green and gold. Speaker for the Commencement ceremony held on Thursday June 10, 1915 at the Methodist Church on E. Erie St. was Professor Ernest Bunham, of the Western State Normal School who was a graduate of Albion College. He spoke on the topic, "A Standard of Life." In looking through the list of graduates, I recognize the names of several of them. Julia McCune of course became a longtime English professor at Albion College. Henry Hobus worked at the Albion Evening Recorder for many years. Marguerite Guyselman (1896-1997) outlived all her classmates and lived to the age of 100. She was a secretary and nurse for Dr. Lawrence McNair for 25 years. Howell VanGorden was a local druggist for many years. The graduates of the Class of 1915 consisted of: Harley Allen, Myra Beebe, Lloyd Rigg, Harold Boyd, Zada Brewer, Naomi Briggs, Irene Broxholm, Nina Bryden, June Bolles, Estella Cozine, Gladys Culver, Oscar Cummings, Iva Davision, Irene Glatzel, Helen Groff, Ruth Guy, Marguerite Guyselman, Cora Hafford, Victor Hanlon, Henry Hobus, Theodore King, Paul Leavy, Otto Lippert, Julia McCune, Phoebe Marsh, Ruth Morse, Mary Mollica, Mabel Miller, Otto Oberg, Nora O’Brien, Jennfe Olsson, Ian Patterson, Harold Ray, Seymour Raynor, Warren Nowlin, Gladys Richards, David Roberts, Glenna Sayles, Leon Schroyer, Eddie Shideman, Earl Sindecuse, Luella Simonds, Donald Smith, Thurza Smith, Herbert Stankrauff, Helen Sweeney, Howell VanGorden, Dorothy Warner, Ildiefontz Watson, and Marguerite Wickens.
