Morning Star, June 20, 2021, pg. 4 Part of growing up in Albion for some of our readers was being a paperboy (or "newsboy," if you prefer) for the Albion Evening Recorder. This daily newspaper was the main source for local news, and numerous young people had their own delivery routes right in town. It was a way to learn business principles, and make some spending or saving money at the same time. From our Historical Notebook this week we present a photograph from December 18, 1961, showing the newsboys who had the top scores in the Recorder’s Recorder-Magazines subscription contest that fall. These boys were treated to two-day excursion to Detroit. It included a Lions-Eagles football game, a tour of the Ford Motor Company, Greenfield Village, and a short trip into Canada. Front row, left to right: Russell Hull and Tim Warren. Back row: Recorder business manager Blair Bedient, Allen Henson, Bill Lentz, Dave Schermer, and Russ Rabulin. How many of our readers were paperboys for the Albion Evening Recorder while growing up here? December 18, 1961, Newsboys who had the top scores in the Recorder-Magazines Subscription Contest
