ALBION HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1926

Each year at this time we feature the Albion High School class of 100 years ago. The class of 1926 had 76 members. The class president was William Pitkin, with Stanley Penzotti as vice-president. Valedictorian was Frances Cameron, and the salutatorian was Katherine Reed. Faculty class advisor was Miss Minnie Krotzer. Their class motto was "Finished Labors are Pleasant."

Graduation ceremonies were held in Friday, June 11, 1926 at 8 o'clock at the Methodist Church on E. Erie St., customary of those times. The graduation was presided by Superintendent Donald Harrington. The graduation speaker for the evening was Dr. Harry Means Crooks, president of Alma College. His address was entitled: "The Cost of Not Having."

From our Historical Notebook this week we present the list of members of the Class of 1926. How many names do you recognize? This class is known for the classic "dress-up day" photograph where they came dressed in all sorts of occupational and other costumes, and posed for a photograph on the steps of the Methodist Church. We are also presenting that photo this week. Take a close look and see if you can guess what each one was portraying. I do have the identities of each person available, but unfortunately do not have the room to include the list here. This photo, including with the identifications, is found on page 40 of my 2002 book "Albion in the 20th Century" published by Arcadia Press.
